Giving Back to Our Community

We love our readers 🙂

I started this site a little over a year ago, and in that time I’ve been pleased to share information and guidance to British TV lovers of all walks of life – everyone from frequent UK travelers to people who have only dreamed of being so lucky. During that time, I’ve gotten a lot of messages and emails from people telling me how much it’s enhanced their lives to find new and better ways to watch British television. I’ve heard from quite a few people who cite it as one of their greatest comforts during a difficult time – people who watch it during downtime as a caregiver, who watch it on a tablet during dialysis, or who watch it for company in the evenings after the loss of a spouse. Some of the people who contact me are going through chemo, or find themselves bedridden and in need of entertainment. Others just appreciate spending a few hours in a more genteel world after dealing with all the angry people walking around in this trying political time.

Giving Back

What’s most distressing to us is when we get a message that says something like, “Unfortunately, I’m going to have to cancel my Acorn membership because I can’t afford it anymore.”

We applaud those who prioritize things like food and paying the bills over television, but we also know that when things really, really suck, a little escapism can really help take your mind off things and help recharge your batteries. That’s why we’re starting a trial effort to help out struggling British TV lovers by covering a couple months of subscription fees.

How Can I Be Considered?

If you’d like to be considered, send an email to stefanie (at ) iheartbritishtv (dot) com and let us know a little more about your situation – just be sure to put the symbols in where I’ve used parentheses. One note – you must be located in the US or Canada.

I have no idea what the response will be like, but it’s quite possible we won’t be able to help everyone. If we feel people are abusing the program and making phony requests, it may be discontinued – so please only make a request if you actually need the assistance. Don’t let that scare you off from asking if things are genuinely tough, though. All requests will be kept confidential.

How Can I Help?

At this time, we’re not taking any donations to this effort. It will be solely funded from the proceeds of the ads you see here (which aren’t making anybody rich, but this isn’t my full-time vocation). If we get a flood of sincere requests, I may consider changing this in the future to allow others to help – but for now, this is just a trial to see what kind of need is out there and help as we can.

  1. I would totally be willing to help someone out. This is a wonderful idea. I hope more people feel the same way I do. To give when possible is the best feeling.

    • That’s fantastic – you’re a good person! I haven’t had a huge number of replies yet, but if that ever changes as the site grows (and the ad revenue isn’t sufficient to cover the growth in interest), I’ll put out a call for anyone like you who wants to help someone out! Thanks for the reply 🙂

  2. i would totally throw in a few bucks to help someone out. Seriously. My mother loves her Acorn, Britbox, and British offerings on Netflix. Streaming is VERY important to her, so I completely understand its importance to someone else. If you ever want to do a GoFundMe or Paypal effort, I’d definitely kick in.

    • Thanks for the reply. I agree, once you’ve seen the difference it can make in someone’s life, you just want to see it available to anyone who would get joy from it. At the moment, the site’s ad revenue is totally sufficient to pay for the limited replies – but if that ever changes, we’ll definitely put up a call for anyone who wants to help out. You’re a good-hearted person!

  3. I love what you’ve written about the solace some of us find in British tv. It’s definitely provided my mUm and me with hundreds, if not thousands, of hours of joy, laughter, intellectual stimulation, and sometimes cathartic and healing tears. It also helped form part of the framework for our trip from home in Texas to London in November.

If I can ever help, I hope you’ll let me know. You can count on me for a year of viewing to anyone it might help ?

    • Hi Tracey – Sorry I didn’t see your message sooner, but I’ll let you know if we get a lot of response. At the moment, we’re more than covered by the ad revenue from the site, but it’s amazing to know we have such caring readers! 🙂
