Episode 1: The Man Who Wasn't There

Five friends venture out for a hot-air balloon ride over the city of Bath, but only four make it safely back down to earth. The fifth, Frankie Marsh, is found dead on the ground. DS Dodds is assisted by Roy Gilbert (played by Rob Brydon), an aviation accident investigator whose ties to the case may be more significant than he lets on.

Episode 2: We Need to Talk About Doreen

A girls' weekend out in Bath is disrupted when a body is discovered in a train tunnel – and that body turns out to be a guest from a party the ladies attended the previous night. Though Dodds initially thinks it's a simple case, he soon realises the group's dark horse is leading him in all the wrong directions.

Episode 3: The War of the Rose (episode delayed in the UK)

After a social media influencer decides to have plastic surgery at a clinic run by a soon-to-be-divorced couple, tragedy strikes. McDonald and Dodds are brought in to investigate the clinic and its staff.

  1. Certainly will Love both characters the stories are good and you never know what’s gonna happen it’s an excellent show

  2. What is the significance of the chocolate bars the librarian
brings to Detective McDonald in the library? (Season 2 Ep.1)

    • disaster on the box so little new stuff worth watching the final episode the war of the rose series two as yet failed to air and the promised four episode series Three having us all hanging PLEASE PLEASE get moving

  3. I love this show! I need more and fast! I love the character Dodds. So endearing. I also love the chemistry between Mc Donald and Dobbs, her growing respect of Dobbs. The light humor similar to the other cozy mysteries I watch over and over again. I already watched season one twice! The public is so desperate for this entertainment.

  4. Absolutely love this show! Am so disappointed that Season 2 has only the 3 episodes. Hope there will be more seasons to come. Does anyone know?

  5. Love this show ! Excellent in all regards—-script, acting, scenery ! Wonderful entertainment !

  6. This series is exceptionally good! I find it hard to solve in advance and I’m’ normally pretty quick in figuring out crime mysteries. Also the show is surprisingly touching and thoughtful, especially the burgeoning relationship between McDonald and Dodds.

  7. Was scanning thru shows looking for something to watch and the introduction caught my eye clean and up to date with music to match watched first episode and was hooked left me geeking for more

  8. Am I crazy? Did Hugh Grant make a cameo appearance as a commercial producer in the episode “The Man Who Wasn’t There”? I have rewound this series so many times to see him. His hair is completely gray. Am I right? Is this Hugh Grant? What a sweet sweet surprise!

  9. In addition to the characters (in my mind I throw peanut shells at the villainess Chief Superintendent) and the unexpected resolutions, I find the locations very interesting (if I were gushing I would say charming, attractive, etc). Looking forward to a new season of episodes.

  10. McDonald and Dobbs was wonderful, and I’m so glad to hear there’s more coming. A very welcome change from all the anguished male detectives, the females with family problems, and the serious psychological problems of both.

  11. I watched season 1 four times and am patiently waiting for seasons two and three. Please hurry Britbox.

      • Season 2 episode 1 is on britbox in US. I am wondering when episodes 2 and 3 will be made available?? I love this show!!!

  12. From the moment the music of the show draws you in until the end of the mystery, “McDonald and Dodds” is captivating. The interplay between the two detectives and their attempts to ignore but support each others quirks, is woven into every scene. I am looking forward to Season 2.

  13. Really liked season one. Please show season two in USA asap. Thanks and well done all.

  14. Absolutely loved Season 1! Very entertaining! Please allow us in America to enjoy Season 2 soon!

  15. Really looking forward Seasons 2 and 3 coming to the US! Will definitely watch them all.

  16. A great show. I love the quirkiness that Watkins gives Dodds. Only disappointed at how few shows there are, and can’t wait to see more!

  17. Loved the first season—even thinking there would be more to it. Now there’s another season to await with anticipation! Yea!
